Ingrid Romero / Project Intern & Blogger

ingrid-lgIngrid Romero is a feminist-activista womyn of color, born and raised in New York City. She is in her first year at Purchase College, majoring in Gender Studies. Over the past four years, Ingrid has worked with a diverse, city-wide network of radical organizations and people over a range of topics from sexuality to public housing. Being a first-hand witness of her parents’ struggle with immigration as a little girl ignited passion and an interest of human rights. From then on, she has always found herself organizing or being involved in actions all over the city, showing solidarity wherever it is needed. She has curated art shows, organized shows, events and workshops, helped open up the 123 Tompkins radical space in Brooklyn, volunteered at Bluestockings and interned for a bevy of organizations. Over this past year, Ingrid has worked with a coalition of community organizations and activists in the Lower East Side known as the Power of Peace (POP) to end violence and promote peace. POP wants to create community projects that involve, empower and inspire young people to create change. Ingrid is working to create more outlets for young people to voice their opinions and become more involved with social issues. Cause there ain’t no power like the power of the people, and the power of the people don’t stop.
